Funeral services for Steve Gray, age 57, of Bedford, who died very unexpectedly on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, will be held Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3 to 7 with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7. Interment will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton. Instead of flowers the family requests memorials be given in Steve's name. Memories can be shared with the family at under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.

Steven Carl Gray was born January 15, 1954 in Maryville, Missouri the son of Beryl Dean Gray and Jewell (Henry) Gray. Steve lived his entire life in the Blockton area attending school and graduating from Bedford High School with the Class of 1972. In fact, he only missed one day of school in 13 years, a trait he would eventually pass on to his children! When he was in the 7th grade a girl named Debra Huelskamp caught his eye . . .they started dating and on December 15, 1973 they were united in marriage at Christ The King Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Together they were blessed with the birth of one daughter and three sons, Amanda, Nick, Wyatt and Jared. Steve and Deb lived in Blockton for a short time after their marriage before moving to the rural area where he had grown up. He farmed all of his life and drove a semi for the past fifteen years with Deb traveling with him after she retired from being the Bedford School Nurse for many years. They loved traveling many places in their RV all year long.

Steve was never one to sit still. He always had a project to work on or a problem that needed fixing. His entire life was wrapped up in his family, their friends, loving his wife and enjoying his grandkids. Each summer would include a two or three week vacation traveling around the United States, often times staying at National Parks. He enjoyed attending his kid's activities as they were growing up, especially the football games! He cooked a lot, with steak and potatoes being his specialty. He was known to collect cast iron cookware and other items he felt worthy of collecting! He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and being with family and friends. Every year he would prepare the deer camp for his boys. Steve's life revolved around his wife and children.

Left to cherish the memories of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend are his loving wife of 38 years, Debra Gray of Bedford; one daughter, Amanda Sockrider of Council Bluffs; three sons, Nick and wife Dani Gray of Bedford; Wyatt and wife Melinda Gray of Bedford; and Jared of Beloit, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Caleb, Asia and Avery Sockrider; Alexis and Gabriel Gray; Nevaeh Gray and Mailey Gray;two brothers, Stanley Gray of Barnard, Missouri; and Bryan and wife Vickie Gray of Bethany, Missouri; two sisters, Lisa Loch and husband David of Maryville, Missouri; and Lana Hoepker and husband Edwin of Bedford; along with many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Steve in death are his parents Beryl and Jewell Gray and his in-laws, James and Margaret Huelskamp.

Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
His enthusiasm, humor and enjoyment of life will be missed by his family and friends.
