STEVEN GEORGE LIAPIS

Mr. Steven George Liapis, 76, died October 1, 2009 at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.

Born in Alexandria, Egypt he received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from the College of St. Marc in Alexandria.

He lived in Vero Beach for 20 years after living in various under-developed countries of the world due to his employment as Senior Foreign Service Officer with the US Agency for International Development. He continued his work after his retirement as an independent consultant for the Agency. While serving overseas he was taken hostage by the Yemen government in 1967.

He was a member of Sea Oaks Beach and Tennis Club and the Vero Beach Bridge Club, where he served as Chairman of the Ethics Committee.

Survivors include his wife, Toril Liapis of Vero Beach, daughters, Melissa Liapis of Vero Beach, Julie Boswell of Vicenza, Italy, and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Norma McEnroe.

SERVICES: Memorial Service will be 10:30 am on October 7, 2009 at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
