New Year’s Day 2010, a celebration occurred in heaven when family and friends welcomed Steve Luther into their loving arms. He will be missed by many. Steve was born into this world a firecracker on July 4, 1961, and left in that same holiday spirit. Steve lived in Mint Hill, NC with his wife Cheryl, where they raised their two daughters, Rachel and Emily. Steve was the oldest of four boys born to Ann Luther and the late Thomas Luther of Waxhaw, NC. He was an awesome and loving father, husband and family man. Family and friends were held dear by him. He loved golfing, sailing, and was forever demolishing, then beautifully reconstructing projects in his home. He was a faithful servant of God, and a member of Mint Hill Baptist Church. He was looking forward to being called “Paw-Paw” by his first grandchild expected in June. He was a dedicated employee of Penske Utility Rental, where he served as district manager for 15 years. He attended Northern Illinois University. Steve will be remembered for his tenacity, unique since of humor, joyful spirit, and his meticulous attention to detail. He could always be counted on to do tasks the right way and to “measure twice, cut once”. Other common phrases often heard by Steve were “Let’s go, so we can get back” and “a clean workplace, is a happy workplace”. A strange bird like cricket noise that he liked to make always allowed family members to know where he was. His son in law Jamey is currently working on an honorable mimic. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Cheryl Flippin Luther, of Mint Hill; daughter, Rachel and her husband Jamey Cummins of Mint Hill; daughter Emily Claire of Mint Hill , his mother Ann Luther of Waxhaw NC; his brothers, Joe Luther and his wife Misty of Atlanta GA; David Luther and his wife Blair of Charlotte, NC; and Greg Luther and his wife Leah Marie of Charlotte; his mother and father-in-law Wayne and Belinda Flippin of Monroe, NC, and his brother-in-law Daryl Flippin and his wife Nancy of Sumter, SC and numerous precious nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Cardiac Care Unit Staff of Presbyterian hospital in Charlotte. Their care and compassion were a blessing during a very difficult time. The family will receive friends Monday, January 4th from 6-8 PM at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104. A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, January 5th, 2010 at Mint Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Lee Proctor officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 222 South Church St., Ste 303, Charlotte, NC 28202 or Mint Hill Baptist Church Building and Grounds Fund, Heritage Funeral Home of Indian Trail, NC will be assisting the Luther family.
