Steven M. Severt, 62, of Merrill, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Good Samaritan Health Center. He was born July 25, 1950 in Merrill to Matt & Virginia (Osness) Severt. On September 19, 1970, he and Karen Davis were united in marriage in Tomahawk. Most importantly, Steve was a great role model for his children which was portrayed through his actions and his great love for his wife. He had a quiet, gentle strength about him showing great leadership. Steve was slow to speak ~ he was a leader without even saying a word. Steve graduated from Merrill Senior High School. After high school, he took a short course for dairy farming at U.W. Madison. Steve owned and operated his own dairy farm for 27 years while working for Brokaw Paper Mill for 10 of those years. He had most recently worked at Lincoln Hills Boys School as a youth counselor and patrolman for 17 years. He enjoyed bear & deer hunting, making trails, riding his 4 wheeler, trout fishing and feeding wildlife. Steve enjoyed time outdoors. He loved technology and watching wrestling. Steve was a 4-H youth leader and was involved with teaching and dairy judging. Survivors include his beloved wife and best friend of 42 years: Karen, Merrill; five children: Jennifer (Derry) Thorson, Merrill; Jess (Karli) Severt, Merrill; Corie (Troy) Madden, Hawaii; Holly Hooyman, Appleton; and Luke (Trish) Severt, Merrill; eight grandchildren: Brandon, Brielle, Jalie, Jazlin, Jillian, Mikayla, Porter and Jossyln; mother: Virginia Severt, Merrill; sister: Sheryl (Tom) Knospe, Merrill; three brothers: Gary (Sandra) Severt, Marathon City; Bruce (Carol) Severt, Merrill; and James (Denise) Severt, Merrill; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Matt Severt and father and mother-in-law, Jennings & Meta Davis. There will be a private family service. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, May 24, 2013 and again from 10-1 PM Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Waid Funeral Home. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
