Sue B. Ritter, 78, of Urbandale, died on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Michael and Mark Ritter conducting the service. Music will be provided by her family. Casket Bearers will be Michael Ritter, Mark Ritter, Alex Ritter, David Ritter, Dick Ritter and Phil Oftelie. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
The family will be present at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be directed to the Christian Missions in Many Lands, P.O. Box 13, Spring Lake, N.J. 07762 or to Mercy Hospice, 5820 Winwood Drive, Johnston, Iowa 50131.
Sue was born on August 2, 1933, in Maryville, Missouri, to Donald and Katherine Chandler Bailey. The family moved to Grinnell and she graduated with the Class of 1951 from Grinnell High School. She also attended the American Institute of Business College in Des Moines. Following her graduation she returned to Grinnell and worked as a secretary at the DeKalb Seed Corn Company.
On December 4, 1955, she was married to Dennis C. Ritter in Grinnell. The couple owned and operated Ritter Plumbing and Heating Company in Grinnell until 1973, when they moved to a ranch in Joliet, Montana. The family moved to Billings, Montana and later to Clive, Iowa. After the death of her husband in 2003 she moved to Sherman, Connecticut. In 2011 she returned to Iowa and settled in Urbandale where she lived and was a member of the Lake Country Bible Chapel in Ankeny.
Sue had a great faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and she diligently prayed for the needs of others. She was a talented baker and taught the art of baking to many family and friends, and encouraged others by her quiet service.
She is survived by two sons, Michael (Dian) Ritter of Urbandale and Mark (Jitka) Ritter of Sherman, Connecticut; three grandchildren, Meredith (Travis) Smith, Alex Ritter and David Ritter.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one sister, Barbara Neighbors.
