Brattleboro – Susan Press (nee Rubinstein) of Brattleboro died on Wednesday January 11, 2012, in the intensive care unit at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center at the age of 68. She died exactly six weeks after suffering multiple injuries from being hit by a car in Brattleboro on November 30. Susan was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 26, 1943 to Morris and Lillian Rubinstein. She graduated from Brooklyn College and enjoyed a successful career as a buyer of women's clothing for department stores in New York City. She married Theodore "Ted" Press and the couple later moved to Brattleboro in the 1970's. There they opened the popular women's clothing store on Maine Street, Lady Lynn, one of the first stores in the Brooks House Mall. After Ted died, she kept the store open as long as she could. Susan loved music, TV & movies, and the company of friends. She was a loving and generous person, always giving gifts and sharing what little she had. She lived on Western Avenue, across from the Berkley & Veller office. Returning home by bus from her part-time job at Save the Corporations From Themselves, she was crossing the street when she was stuck by a car. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Richard Gochman of New York, mother-in-law, Lee Press of Florida, sister-in-law, Janet (and Stewart) Paperin of New York City, and many, many dear friends. A graveside service, arranged by Atamaniuk Funeral Home, was held on Sunday January 15, at 11:00 AM at the Brattleboro Area Jewish Community Cemetery, located off of South Main Street. The family has asked that memorial donations be sent to the Brattleboro Area Jewish Community, P.O. Box 2353, Brattleboro, VT 05303.
