Eva Sue (Susie) Bell Zachary, age 92 of Austin, peacefully passed away at Seton Hospital on Tuesday, February 7, 2012. Her great niece, Jamie Hislop was at her side.

Susie was born on April 21, 1919 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Orville E. and Thelma Murphy. She spent her childhood in Shawnee, Oklahoma and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1937. Susie then went to McAllen to be with her oldest sister, Blanche. She moved to Austin in 1941 to join her mother and father; sister, Peggy and brothers, Sonny and Tom.

Susie was married to Johnny Bell from 1953 until his death in 1967. She was married to Grady Glen Zachary in 1969 until his death in 2005. Susie worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Austin for 20 years. When the Austin Club was created she was in on the ground floor; organizing and managing until her retirement. Susie was well known in the Austin Little Theatre and had many fans. She was quite an actress! Susie was also in the Miss America State finals in 1941.

Susie leaves behind her sister, Peggy A. Burch; sister-in-law, Bonnie Murphy; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Blanche Jones; and brothers, Orville (Sonny) and Thomas Allen Murphy.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and funeral services at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 14th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Blvd. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
