Sylvia Rainger, 91, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2011 in Salt Lake City. She was born on January 18, 1919 in Trenton, New Jersey to Isador Lauer and Etta Pollock.

Her father’s death occurred due to a gas explosion. Her mother died from breast cancer. Her remaining children were sent to live with other relatives. Sylvia grew up in New Jersey where she met Daniel Reichenthal Rainger of Newark, New Jersey at a dance for Young Men’s Hebrew Association in the late 1930’s. She married Dan on January 12, 1941. Danny enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1941. By 1942 Dan and Sylvia were stationed at Camp Kearns, Utah through out the war.

Danny, a pioneer in the early days of radio and T.V., worked for different companies in Salt Lake City. Sylvia was very much involved in sports, especially tennis and golf.

She is survived by two sons Ronald (Judy) of Lubbock, TX. and William of Salt Lake City, UT. She is preceded in death by her parents, and other siblings, Francis Lauer, Robbie Lauer, Lester Lauer and Jackie Lauer.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 S. Highland Dr. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
