Mrs. Ted Tidwell Ellett
Greenville, SC

Mrs. Ted Tidwell Ellett, 101, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 24, 2012 after a brief illness.

She was a graduate of Hollins College in Roanoke, VA, received her Master's degree from Columbia University and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Furman University.

Mrs. Ellett taught at Limestone College in Gaffney where she was a professor of Health and Physical Education and Dean of Women. She also taught at Furman University and was a former Acting Dean of Women.

A longtime member of First Baptist, Greenville, she served as a Deacon, President of the WMU and taught the Burnett Bible Class for many years. She was a member, former trustee and served on the Board of Directors of the Greenville Woman's Club; served on the Board of Directors for the YWCA; former President and served on the Board of Directors of Friends of Greenville County Library; former chairman of AAUW in Gaffney and Greenville, and former President and member of the Thursday Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph Carlyle Ellett in 1984; and is survived by her sons, Joseph Carlyle Ellett, Jr. and wife, Michelle of San Benicia, CA, and William Albert Ellett of St. Louis, MO; and her grandchildren, Tabitha McCall Ellett and Joseph Carlyle Ellett III.

Services will be at 2:30pm, Friday, January 27, 2012 at First Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Baxter Wynn and Reverend Dr. Jim Pitts officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15pm in the Narthex of the church. Interment will be in Springwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials please be made to Furman University Development, 3300 Poinsett Highway, Greenville, SC 29613 and note on memo line "Ellett Economics Prize", or to First Baptist Church Faith Fund, 847 Cleveland Street, Greenville, Sc 29601.
