Teresa Alonso Hanagan, passed away peacefully with her husband of 55 years at her side, on August 26, 2011. Born May 14, 1923 in Zacos, Spain she is survived by her husband George "Jerry", children Terri (Jim), Frank (Rhoni), José (Carey), Clara (Taras), grandchildren Gabriela, Nicolas, Logan and Noah, daughter-in-law Kim, sister Veri Pertejo Alonso of Malaga, Spain. Her unwavering strength came from her love of family, faith in God and her church and community involvement. She loved gatherings with friends and family where she could spoil everyone with her fantastic cooking. She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens and instilled a love of flowers and nature in her family. Her love of children and helping the less fortunate, through her years at the San Joaquin Dependent Children's Home, teaching Montessori, adopting less fortunate children in other countries and writing letters to them. She also believed in volunteering and spent many years at St. Mary's Interfaith Dining Hall, St. Joseph's Hospital delivering flowers to the sick and visiting the elderly. Her belief as a parent was the need to teach a reverence for all life, nature, animals and the love, tolerance and compassion for all peoples, ethnicities and religion. She was very proud of her two degrees both in Spain and here in the US, graduating with honors in Child Development.
Rosary will be held on Sunday, August 28th at 3 pm at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California Street, Stockton, CA. A Catholic mass will follow on Monday August 29th at 11 am at the Cathedral of the Annunciation, 400 West Rose St., Stockton, CA. Committal will be private at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to one of the following: St. Mary's Interfaith Dining Hall, St. Joseph's Medical Cancer Center or, Hospice of San Joaquin in Stockton, CA. Memories and condolences to the family can be communicated through www.deyoungchapels.com.
