Thelma Jean (Townsend) Slobodzian, 72, of South Bend Township, Armstrong County, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 in the Golden Living Center, Murrysville, Pa. after a lengthy illness.

Thelma was born June 5, 1939 in South Bend Township, Armstrong County, PA to the late Burton M. and Mabel L. (Watterson) Townsend. She lived in South Bend Township most of her life. Thelma was a graduate of Elderton High School class of 1957.

She was employed as a laborer at the former Robert Shaw Controls of Indiana for 23 ½ years, she also was employed as a cutter at the former Penn Needle Art of Spring Church for several years.

Thelma was a member of the Boiling Springs Presbyterian Church, Spring Church.

She cherished going on family vacations. She enjoyed collecting Indian jewelry, figurines, and working on puzzle books. Thelma always made contributions to several different organizations that were in need.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her niece, Lorie Ann Townsend-September 1, 1997.

Thelma is survived by three brothers, Burton W. (Betty)Townsend of South Bend Twp., Gary M. (Jane) Townsend of South Bend Twp., and Edward T. (Carol) Townsend of South Bend Twp.; and three sisters, Mary L. Townsend of South Bend Twp., Doris A. Townsend of South Bend Twp., and Karen E. Townsend of South Bend Township; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and one great nephew.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 100 Owens View Ave. Apollo, PA. Services will be held Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Reverend Terri Swails officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Spring Church, PA.
