Theodore R. "Ted" Haara, 59, of Marquette, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, October 12, 2011 at his home, with his family by his side and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice. Ted was born on May 8, 1952 in Marquette, a son of Wilho and Gloria (Koski) Haara and was a lifelong area resident. He was a 1975 graduate of Northern Michigan University. Ted was employed at the Marquette County Youth Home for 27 years retiring in 2001 as administrator. For the last six years he was employed at Sundara House as business manager. An avid outdoorsman, Ted enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a great story teller and most enjoyed being with family, friends and watching football. Ted was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral as well as Monsignor Nolan B. McKevitt Council #689, Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, the former Maureen Klumpp whom he married on November 9, 1974 at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey; six children, Joe (Kayo) Haara of Negaunee, Anne Haara of Clinton Township, MI, Marian (Adam) Heinzelman of Ishpeming, Catherine (Craig) Sweeney of Waukegan, IL, Luke Haara and his fiancé, Andrea Millimaki of Marquette, and Mark Haara of Marquette; two grandchildren, Natalie and William Heinzelman; his mother, Gloria Haapala of Marquette; one brother, Robert Haara of Skandia; three sisters, Marilyn (George) Voce, Kathleen (Kenneth) Holmgren and Joy (Alfred) Tousignant all of Marquette; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilho Haara in 1981 and a brother, David Haara in 1989. Visitation will be held on Sunday at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home from 2 to 6 p.m. where members of the Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 2 p.m. and a parish prayer service will take place at 5 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Cathedral with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber and Rev. Ryan Ford concelebrating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Members of Bishop Baraga the Snowshoe Priest Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will act as honor guard. Memorials are preferred to Father Marquette Schools, 500 S.
