PFC Theodore "Teddy" Rushing, 25, of DeBary, made the ultimate sacrifice in service for his country and was killed in action on Veterans Day, after heavy fighting in Afghanistan. Teddy served with the 10th Mountain Division, 71st Calvary, as a Forward Scout for the US Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Afghanistan Campaign medal with bronze service star, Global war on terriorism service medal, army service ribbon, overseas service ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, Combat and special skill badge, weapons expert and overseas service bar. For actions in defense of his country, Teddy has received the ultimate soldier's honor, of being laid to rest with his fellow heroes at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
Teddy was born and raised in Orlando and graduated from Altamonte Christian School. After high school he furthered his educational studies with an Associates degree from Seminole State College. After college, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he graduated from Cavalry Scout School at Fort Knox, KY. Upon Graduation he was stationed at Fort Drum, NY.
Teddy is survived by his loving parents, Rick and Ann Rushing of DeBary; sister, Stacy Rushing of DeBary; maternal grandmother, Marcheta Holloway of Fern Park; maternal grandfather, William Strohaker of Altamonte Springs; aunt, Kathy Coon and her husband Stewart of Winter Park; Uncle, Dan Rushing and his wife Mona of Ocoee; aunt, Ginger Cantanese and her husband Vince of Apopka; Uncle, David Rushing and his wife Jan of Winter Garden, and several beloved cousins, extended family, and friends.
