Theresa M. McGuckin, 84, of Springfield, died at 8:07 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. Theresa was born September 21, 1929 in Chicago, the daughter of James and Ann Masterson Murray. She married Joseph A. McGuckin on April 7, 1951 in Joliet. Theresa was a graduate of St. Raymond's Cathedral Grade School and St. Francis Academy, both in Joliet. She earned her nursing degree at St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Joliet, and worked as a registered Nurse for 40 years. Theresa was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where she belonged to the Ladies' Society and sang in the funeral choir. She volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister at St. John's Hospital and enjoyed golf, flower gardening, reading and spending time with her family. For many years, she enjoyed being a "Winter Texan" spending the cold months in South Padre Island and Corpus Christi, TX. Theresa was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She lived her life fully and brought joy, happiness, care, and comfort to those around her. She loved her family and friends completely, and she will be missed deeply by those who knew and loved her. Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Robert McGuckin; and her sister, Sister Ann James Murray. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; four sons, Michael (Diana) of Flanagan, IL, Patrick (Carol) of Sherman, IL, Thomas (Cathy) of Huntley, IL, and William (Sandy) of Roselle, IL; one daughter, Susan (Robert) Nielsen of Bloomington, IL; one brother, James (Carolyn) of California; seven grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield with Rev. Joseph Ring, celebrant. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies. Private burial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield, IL 62704.
