Theresa Yolanda Davenport, 83, of Atlantic City passed away Monday, June 4, 2012. "Terry" as she was affectionately known to friends and family was born May 19, 1929, in New York City, New York to the late Carmen and Orlando Horatio Cardoza. As a child, she was an active member in Marcus Garvey's Universal Negro Improvement Association's Youth Core. Theresa relocated to Atlantic City after marrying "her one and only" Clarence C. Davenport, Sr. She held various positions when working for several local Black owned establishments. She originally joined St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, and then later joined the Episcopal Church of the Ascension to attend with her mother, where she became a member of the Episcopal Women's Group and the church Vestry, a duty which she performed with steadfast devotion. She was also very involved in the various fundraising activities for the church. Her love of and commitment to her neighborhood included working with the Bungalow Park Civic Association. Theresa is predeceased by: parents, Carmen and Orlando; her husband, Clarence; and her sisters, Consuelo Scott and Rita Best. She is survived by: a loving family of three sons, Clarence C. Davenport, Jr. of Atlantic City, NJ; Terence L. Davenport (Veronica) of Woodbridge, VA; adopted son, Anthony C. Ward (Rose) of Pleasantville, NJ; two sisters, Yvonne Foster of Atlantic City, NJ and Leslie Zenj-Ra (Jasim) of Manchester, NJ; three sisters-in-law, Pearl Davenport of Pleasantville, NJ, Carol Cowan of Egg Harbor Township, NJ and Helen Patterson of Mays Landing, NJ; four grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
