Thomas Avera Ledyard, Jr., age 78, passed away on January 28, 2012. Husband of the late Irma Castaneda Ledyard. Father of Melissa Ledyard Truett (John) and Allison Ledyard Dupepe (Bryan) both of New Orleans. Grandfather of Austin and Christian Vollman; and Hunter, Peri and Caroline Coe (Coco) Dupepe. Step-grandfather to Jack, Frances and Monty Truett. Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Avera Ledyard, Sr. and Sarita Beuchot Ledyard; and his half-brother, Edward M. Alba. Also survived by his half-sister, Sarita Scott. He was born in La Ceiba, Honduras where his father was a Standard Fruit Company Executive. He attended Webb School in Tennessee. He attended Louisiana State University where he was awarded Bachelors degrees in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Williamsburg, Virginia. Tom was a retired Senior Mechanical Engineer at URS Corporation in New Orleans. He was a licensed Professional Engineer with an expertise in commercial and industrial heating, ventilation and air conditioning. He was a member of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers, Louisiana Engineering Society, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. Tom was an avid golfer and wine enthusiast. He enjoyed his family and friends and lived life to the fullest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM.
