Thomas Daniel Shotwell, Sr., age 84, a lifelong resident of Avoca, died Friday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes O'Malley Shotwell, on August 9, 1985. Born on October 2, 1927, son of the late Daniel and Edith Belles Shotwell, Thomas was educated in Avoca Schools. He had worked for both Miller's and Mushkin's Scrap Yards before retiring after 30 years as a crane operator for Lane's Crane Service in Moosic. A collector of both coins and watch fobs, his favorite pasttime was spending time with family being a father, papa, and great grandfather, taking trips to Atlantic City, and more recently, to the Mohegan Sun. A loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, he will be dearly missed. He is survived by his five children, Thomas Shotwell, Jr., of Madison Twp., Patrick Shotwell and wife Debbie of Avoca, Catherine Polak of Duryea, Mary Ann Zeller of Glendale and William Shotwell of Avoca; his two brothers, Leroy Shotwell and wife Stella of Scranton, and Kenneth Shotwell and wife Betty of Duryea; his four sisters, Caroline Kishel of Exeter, Leona Gnall of Avoca, Isabel Collins and husband Kenneth of Pittston and Ruth Dushok of Avoca; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Also preceding in death were brothers, Ira and David Shotwell; and a sister, Verna Gray. Funeral services have been scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, to be conducted by Rev. James A. Wert. Interment will follow at Marcy Cemetery in Duryea. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Thomas' name to the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. 2000 L Street, N.W., Suite 410 Washington, DC 20036.
