Thomas G. ''Tom'' Madonia, Sr., 55, a lifetime resident of Springfield, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2002 at his residence. Tom was born April 5, 1947 in Springfield, the son of Sevet and Isabelle Simonavich Madonia. He married Mary Pat Bland August 30, 1969 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Springfield. Tom was a graduate of St. Joseph Elementary, Griffin High School, Springfield College in Illinois and Sangamon State University. He served in the National Guard from 1967-1973. Tom was employed by Horace Mann Insurance Company for 32 years and retired as Vice President of Administrative Services October 31, 2002. He served as Ward 1 Alderman of the Springfield City Council from 1991 to present. He was a Board Member for the American Cancer Society, Gateway Foundation and Camp-Care-A-Lot. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council # 4179, Elks Lodge #158, Eagles Aerie #437 and the Anchor Boat Club. He served as a Republican Precinct Committeeman and was a member of the Springfield Park Board for eight years. He was also the Khoury League Coach for the Giacomini Builders for eight years leading his team to two national championship games. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Mary Pat of Springfield; three sons: Tom Jr. (wife, Katie) Madonia, Mo (wife, Sherri) Madonia and Nick Madonia all of Springfield; four grandchildren: Nick Jr., Gretchen, Abby and Adam Madonia; one sister: Jeanne (husband, Rich) Davis of Mendota; one brother: Sam (wife, Alice) of Springfield and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Friends may call at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 3-7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2002. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 25, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Reverend Thomas Holinga principal celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Grade School 1344 N. 5th St., Springfield, IL 62702 or St. Martin DePorres Center, 1301 S. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Springfield, IL 62703 The family of Thomas G. ''Tom'' Madonia, Sr. is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
