Poughkeepsie – Thomas H. Kirschner, 55, a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.
Born September 24, 1957 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of Edward and Mary Conners Kirschner of Hyde Park. Tom was a 1975 graduate of F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park.
Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1977 to 1980 and the Air Force from 1982 to 1986.
He worked for Call-A-Cab Taxi service in Poughkeepsie for several years until he had to stop working due to his health.
He enjoyed flying kites, going for walks and playing badminton with his wife, Haiming. He liked watching sports on television, especially the NY Giants and NY Mets.
On July 31, 2009 in Poughkeepsie, he married Haiming Li. Mrs. Kirschner survives at home.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his daughter, Jessica Lynn Kirschner of Oregon; son, Thomas Kirschner of Poughkeepsie; granddaughter, Jasmine of Oregon; brother, James Kirschner and wife, Georgia, of Keene, New Hampshire; sister, Nancy Elwell of Hyde Park; brother, Charles H. Kirschner of Poughkeepsie; and many nieces.
A period of visitation will be from 9 to 11 am, Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Mid-Hudson Chinese Christian Church, 306 All Angels Hill Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11 am at the church with a reception to follow.
In keeping with Tom's wishes, cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mid Hudson Chinese Christian Church, 306 All Angels Hill Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
