Thomas J. (Captain Tommy) Camp, Sr., 75, left this earth for better fishing grounds on Monday. Retired Navy Chief BT, Tommy received many letters of thanks from Admirals and a United States President for contributions outside the norm. Tommy was ordained by the US Coast Guard as Captain Camp, and expertly piloted many boats, large and small, in the capacity-research vessels for Virginia Institute of Marine Science, launch boats, and private charter boats, in addition to pleasure fishing vessels for family and friends. His knowledge of the sea and angling was unsurpassed, and he unselfishly shared secrets with anyone who wanted to know. Tommy is survived by his wife, JoAnn (Jo) Camp; and a huge bunch of his and hers adult offspring, all of whom he loved unconditionally: Sons Thomas Camp, Jr. and wife Clara, John Camp, Richard Camp and wife Sherry, and daughter Lisa Warren. Sons Mike Overton (deceased), Tommy Overton and wife Loyce, and Will Overton, and daughters Kathy Pardue, Nancy Dauer and husband Steve Stafford, Linda Beecher, and Dorothy Mullins and husband Fred. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren are too numerous to be listed here, but no less treasured. He is also survived by siblings: Brothers "Ray" and wife Betsy, "Wally" and wife Barbara, "Charlie" and wife Peggy, and sister Karen Cozza and husband/beloved brother-in-law Johnny. Services will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1264 N. Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012. Reception to follow at The Reef Lounge. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Tidewater Food Bank.
