The two people who mattered most to Tom O'Packi in his life, his wife Diane and son Kevin, were with him when he died on Monday, March 21, 2016. He was 67. Tom's been rejoined with the parents he loved and cherished Peter and Agnes (Skowronski) O'Packi.
Born August 3, 1948 in Worcester he was a graduate of the former Commerce High School and he then enlisted with the United States Air Force and honorably served his country during the Vietman War. Shortly after the war ended Tom joined good friends at 'Woodstock'. Tom embodied that Woodstock approach most of his life, always with a rebellious spirit. He had a passion for music but a keen affinity for the blues.
Opposites attract and on August 29, 1986 he married Diane M. Connor of West Boylston. She came from a large Irish catholic family but he insisted their wedding ceremony last no longer than the time he'd be able to hold his breath. They wed and 30 years later they held true to vows of good and bad times, sickness and health…..and though death may part them here, it is in eternity everyone reunites.
Tom had a keen and natural ability to friend people. With genuine ear and a willingness to help he was a fan of tinkering, repairing and building. If he had a hobby it was to help others. He loved traveling and road trips with Diane and Kev. He was a lucky guy. He married well and helped raise his only son and become friend to his in-laws and many people. He battled illness and while his family thought he'd rally through this most recent setback there is comfort in the sweetness of peace and freedom that Tom finally enjoys.
In addition to his wife of 30 years, Diane M. Connor-O'Packi he leaves their son, Kevin T. O'Packi, both of Sterling; brothers, Robert (Julie) O'Packi of Leicester and Peter (Patricia) O'Packi of Worcester and the late Lorraine Kupstas; his in-laws, Jim & Renee Connor of Portola Valley, California, Judy & Kevin Smith of Holden, Susan & Joel Fife of Worcester, Mary & Dave Comerota of Missouri City, Texas and Liz & Dan Blash of Auburn; also survived by many cherished nieces & nephews. He loved you all dearly.
