Thomas Phillip Boren
"Okie, Cowboy, or Phillip," 80, a resident of San Rafael, NM, died Friday, December 23, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ima June Boren; children, Linda Fay Moberly of Athens, TN, Larry Dean Boren of Plano, TX, Mary Lou Endsley and husband, Gary Eldon, of Grand Junction, CO, and David Lee Boren of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Adam Dwayne Endsley, Travis Allen Endsley, Ronald D. Bryant, Randy D. Bryant, and Robert W. White; great-grandchildren Brendan Endsley, Hunter Allen Endsley, Mason Ryan Endsley, Landon Michael Endsley, Easton Eldon Endsley, Thomas D. Bryant, Bruce L. Bryant, Larry "P.J." Grantland, Whisper D. Wood, and Jarrett Green.
Phillip is survived by sisters Jewell Dell Brady of Coos Bay, Oregon and Dorothy Mae Robins and husband, Nathaniel of TN; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas William and Rosy Bell Boren; brothers, Roy Walter Boren, Charley William Boren, Ed Edward Boren, and Floyd William Boren; and sisters, Unes Lee Boren and Juanita Flora Doyle.
Phillip was born in 1931 in Le Flore, OK and spent his early childhood in the forests, fields, and streams of southeastern Oklahoma (roaming the wild land with his much loved brother Edward). The family moved to Grants in 1942 working in the timber and the carrot industries. Thomas met and married his life-long partner working in the carrot sheds in 1947. Thus began a journey which would result in his being known as Okie by his co-workers at the Anaconda Uranium Mill and as Cowboy by many friends and family. His journey is now complete and he will be remembered as a loving husband, a father who set sound standards for his children, a man with strong work ethics and who loved the great outdoors, fishing, and travel. He was educated by the hard knocks of life and common sense dictated his actions. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and work associates.
Friends may visit Immanuel Baptist Church in Milan, NM on Thursday, December 29, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at Immanuel Baptist on Friday, December 30, 2011, 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Grants Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Nolen Webb, Larry Boren, Larry H. Milligan, Ruben Lee Burrow, Travis Endsley, and Don Major Watts.
