Thomas V. Piasecki, 69, of Gwinn, died Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Marquette General Hospital. He was born June 23, 1942, in Marquette, a son of the late Vincent and Irene (Tousignant) Piasecki and was a lifelong area resident. Tom attended Bishop Baraga School, received a Bachelor’s degree from Northern Michigan University in 1964 and a Master’s degree in 1969. On August 5, 1967 he married the former Christine Chopp at St. John’s Catholic Church in Marquette. Tom was employed as a teacher in the Gwinn Schools for 30 years and retired in 1994. He loved sports, coaching track and basketball, serving as the “starter” for swim and track meets and compiled stats for the basketball and football teams. He was also an avid Detroit sports fan. Tom will be remembered as a family man who especially loved his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Chris of Gwinn; children, Mark (Mindy) Piasecki of Neenah, WI and Connie (Aaron Jacob) Miller of Gwinn; grandchildren, Miranda Miller of Gwinn and Matthew Piasecki (and his mother, Maureen Hansen) both of Boston; brothers, Jim (Pilar) Piasecki of Wayne, PA and Dave (Linda) Piasecki of Upsala, MN; brother-in-law, Randy (Ann) Chopp of Wausau, WI; and nephews and niece, Greg (Carmen) Chopp, Amy (Mark) Harris, Andrew, Zac, Alex and Philip Piasecki. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Lawrence Piasecki in 2004. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the Gwinn Cemetery.
