Tolly Newberry, 83 , passed away on Saturday (August 25. 2012) at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap.
He was born in Tarpon, Virginia. He was a butcher in his younger days for Safeway, Krogers and Piggly Wiggly. In 1956, he moved to Big Stone Gap, where he went into business with High Land Service Center and Restaurant, then later at the Texaco station until his retirement. He was a member of the Big Stone Gap Vol. Fire Dept. for years.
Tolly will be greatly missed by everyone knew and loved him very much.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Betty Newberry; one son, Robert "Robbie" Newberry; his parents, Edward and Sarah (Owens) Newberry; brothers, Stanford, Hobert, Willie, Burns, Arnold, Robert "Bobby," and his twin brother, Ted Newberry; sisters, Mary Gourly, Maxie Castle and Polly Mae Church.
Surviving are his wife of four years, Loretta Newberry of Big Stone Gap; one daughter, Deonna Light and husband Greg; grandchildren, Bryan Payne, Kellie McQueen and Jason McQueen; two great grandsons, all of Knoxville, TN; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Newberry of Tarpon, VA and Nancy Kemp of Mt Airy, MD; brother-in-law, Mac and Shelby Collier of Wise, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Holding Funeral Home Chapel with Chuck Miller, Gary Sexton and the Big Stone Gap Fire Department officiating.
Graveside services will be private.
