Toni Lynn Hutchins
October 2, 1951 – August 25, 2010

On October 2, 1951 Toni made her arrival at Lincoln Hospital in The Bronx, NY. She was the firstborn daughter of Anthony and Carolyn and was later joined by her siblings Daryl, Gay, Kim, Steve, David and Derrick. She grew up in a rural area in Ulster county, NY and lived on acres of land where she and her siblings enjoyed an idyllic childhood filled with hiking, skating, swimming, skiing, fishing, archery, row boating, and playing an innumerable amount of wholesome games that kept them occupied for hours each day. These were fun times shared with cousins, aunts, uncles and close friends.

Toni graduated sixth grade from Marbletown Elementary in Stone Ridge, NY and completed seventh and eighth grades at Roundout Valley Central School. Later the family moved to Rockland County, NY where Toni attended Clarkstown High School and graduated in 1969.

In the summer of 1969 Toni met and fell in love with the man who would become her husband, they married in the Summer of 1970, and then moved to New Haven Connecticut where her husband completed college at Yale University.

In 1971, she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who she named Melyssa. Later, the new family moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where Toni returned to school and became a registered nurse while raising her daughter. In time, the family moved to Walnut Creek, California. She loved living in California and enjoyed the weather and landscape. She would often say how much she loved the sunshine, rolling green hills in the winter and the golden hills in summer. Her life in California included living in The Oakland Hills, Fremont, and eventually Fairfield.

In 1981 she gave birth to her second child, a handsome baby boy who she named Jordan. She enjoyed time with him at home and spent many years raising her children at home before she continued to reach out to help others as a RN. Toni was last employed at an assisted living facility in Fairfield, CA where she made many friends and was liked and respected by the residents and nursing staff.

Toni was diagnosed with Cancer in October 2009 and she continued to work while undergoing chemo therapy, as long as she was able. When it became too difficult for her to continue her loving daughter moved her to the Phoenix, AZ area to care for her. Her last weeks were spent in the loving care and warm atmosphere of her daughter's home. She took her last breath with her daughter holding one hand and her only sister holding the other, knowing how much she was loved and how much she would be missed.

Toni's belief as one of Jehovah's Witnesses was that she would be resurrected and be reunited with her loved ones to enjoy endless life on a paradise earth free of all sorrow, pain, and suffering. Toni Often spoke about her passion to explore marine life and as a child had wanted to become a Marine biologist. She loved Hawaii and made many trips there where she enjoyed snorkeling and the sounds of the ocean. As her belief dictates, when she wakes up she will have eternity to explore all of her passions. Until then….Rest well dear sweet Toni, you are loved beyond measure.

Toni is survived by her daughter Melyssa, son Jordan, 5 siblings, 1 Aunt, 2 Uncles, many close Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, as well as many dear friends who will all miss her very much. ♥

A DAUGHTER'S PROMISE

Every time that I smile,
Every time that I sigh,
I think of your face,
And a tear escapes my eye.

You were my world,
My inspiration and my heart,
But when you left me,
I thought I would fall apart.

You were my best friend,
My one true 'confidante',
And that's not all you were,
You were also my mom.

I didn't want to live without you,
But you would have wanted me to,
And if there's anyone I want to make happy,
That anyone is you

I would have given anything to have you back,
But I know now that it was meant to be,
For you are still with me,
And I know you're in my heart.

I'll make you proud mom,
I'm going to fulfill your wish,
You're going to see me and smile,
That's a daughter's promise.

CAROUSEL

Inside the womb safe and warm the seed begins to grow
Until the time when nature calls then onward we must go

On an unfamiliar journey full of twists and turns
We're served a dish of lessons that everyone must learn

Fathers gentle counsel – Mothers warm caress
Shapes and mold the precious clay to be its very best

As a feather surfs the gentle breeze floating to and fro'
Are memories in a toy box of kittens in the snow

As the snow begins to turn to ice and days turn into years
Along the rugged journey we learn to face our fears

The wings of time carry us swiftly through the years
Life's nectar can be bittersweet and cause us many tears

Dear friends and cherished loved ones stand by to cheer us on
They glaze the precious earthenware protecting it from harm

They decorate its crevices with airbrush and pastel
Transforming scars to flowers while watering them well

And as we turn to see the past we know we've left our mark
Thanking God for blessings while braving through the dark

But dark turns into daylight and daylight into dark
A carousel of bittersweet until the day we part.
