As a child she lived in Burlington, California, and Florida. She met Larry E. Pierce in Burlington and within a year they were married on October 6, 1962. They had three daughters together. Trudi was a homemaker until 1975 when she decided to go back to school to become a nurse. She worked in many areas of nursing throughout her career. She was an ICU nurse at Burlington Medical Center, at Danville Nursing Home as a Director of Nursing, an administrator at Great River Medical Center and finished her career as an instructor for Clinical Nurses at Southeastern Community College. Trudi loved caring for others and made a connection with many people in her profession. Her hobbies included putting together photo albums, reading, attending Red Hat Society meetings with friends and Bible Study. She was a member of Middletown Presbyterian Church for many years. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends by her pool because she loved the sun. Trudi loved traveling and looked at life as an adventure. She enjoyed spending time with her family and passed on to each of them her sense of caring and compassion for others. She was on the Board of Directors for the Homeless Shelter in Burlington. Her wishes for her family were to do something for others in their lives as she did. She was blessed with many close friends through the years and will be missed by all. She is our guardian angel now... Survivors include her husband, Larry; three daughters, Darcy (Matt) Thornton of Clinton, IA, Laura (Tal) Hinesley of Middletown, and Aimee (Jody Holtkamp) Pierce of Burlington; six grandchildren, Amber Thornton-Ames, Sarah Thornton, Tayler Hinesley, Jacob Hinesley, Troy Hinesley, and Jesse Holtkamp; one sister, Terri Gavaletz of Livermore, CA; two half-brothers, Tony Thomas of Saint Louis, MO, Rusty (Debbie) Thomas of Saint Louis, MO; one half-sister, Becky Thomas of Burlington; three step-brothers, Terry (Pat) Frost of Omaha, NE, Dale Lott of Nashville, TN, and Lance Lott of Nashville, TN; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, January 16, 2012 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mrs. Pierce will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Jay Clover officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Comfort Suites following the service. As per Trudi's wishes, cremation will be accorded following the service.
