Truman Lee Owens, age 78, of Russellville, went home to be with his Lord, Friday, November 29, 2013, surrounded by family and friends. He was born November 10, 1935, in Clarksville, Arkansas to Truman and Aggie Dale Lantz Owens. He was a graduate of Clarksville High School ('53) and College (University) of the Ozarks. After college, he pursued a career in teaching and coaching in the public school systems in Phillips County. He returned to the River Valley area to complete his career as safety director for the poultry industry. Truman followed his passion for music throughout his life as music director in Philllips County, Arkansas, Second Baptist Church in Russellville and Crow Mountain Baptist Church where he was a charter member. In the 70's he was a part of a Southern gospel quartet "The Countrymen". While in Phillips County, he was an active member of the Masons as well as a veteran. The order of importance in his life was God, family and music. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Tom Owens; and one sister, Neomia Wise.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Earla Owens; a son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Teresa Owens of Russellville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kimberlee and Allen Hamon of Omaha, Arkansas and Faith Owens of Russellville; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, James and Dorothy Owens of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Carl and Patti Owens of Beebe and Glenda Owens of Clarksville; a sister, Wanda Scholtes of Clarksville; five grandchildren and three spouses, Jennifer (Ben) Newhouse, Bobby (Jamie) Hamon, Stacey (Bo) Whitaker, Derek Owens and Alyssa Owens; four great-grandchildren Brooke and Caleb Newhouse, Braden Blake, and Kenzie Hamon.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Crow Mountain Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Jeff Cheatham and the Rev. Don Rose. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville, under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
