“Together Forever”

Our beloved Ursula Hawkes Wilkinson “Virginia" passed away on March 27, 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was born July 27, 1922 in Ogden, Utah to Heber Bowman Hawkes and Emma Celestia Anderson Hawkes-the youngest of eight children. She felt blessed to have lived the first nine years of her life in the rural community of Taylor, Weber County, Utah and never lost her love for farm life. The family moved to Ogden where Ursula graduated from Weber High School, Weber College and the Thomas Dee Memorial School of Nursing. She later attended the University of Utah, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Education. She loved nursing, and was known as an exemplary and devoted caregiver. She cared for a number of her family members in their final days. After fifteen years of nursing, she accepted a call to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California mission.

Following her mission, Ursula returned to the University of Utah to obtain a certificate in Elementary Education. Teaching opened up a new world to her. She loved the children and her twenty one years at Fremont Elementary brought much satisfaction. Over the years she received many letters of commendation for her innovative teaching.

On July 19, 1980 Ursula was sealed to “the kindest person” she had ever known, Clarence Arthur Wilkinson, in the Salt Lake Temple. She embraced his wonderful family. Ursula and Clarence enjoyed many years together. In addition to numerous church activities they were active in cross country skiing, snow shoeing, hiking many trails along the Wasatch Front and taking trips with friends and family. Clarence passed away May 1, 2002. The Wilkinson family has been very caring as Ursula’s health declined.

Ursula was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her brothers and sisters, Audrey Baker, H. Bowman Hawkes, John B. Hawkes, Edwin H. Hawkes, Marie Abegglen, Grant A. Hawkes and Wanda Barrett; stepson Richard L. Wilkinson. She is survived by stepson’s Boyd G. and Bruce K. (Ruth) Wilkinson, stepdaughter’s Kathy W. (Bill) Elmer, Kathleen (Richard) Wilkinson and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, as well as 1 hour prior to services at the mortuary.
Interment Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd. Ogden, Utah.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Silverado Care Center for all of the love, care and support given to Virginia and her family.
