Valeda Laverne Marr Williams, 84, of Shallowater went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 7, 2010. She was born to Roe Irving and Willie May (Doyle) Marr on October 1, 1926 in Lubbock County, Texas. She graduated from Shallowater High School where she lettered four years in basketball, and earned an Associate’s degree from Wayland Baptist University. She married Wayne R. Williams on October 2, 1944 in Meadow, Texas and remained married for over 60 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Dayton Marr; and son-in-law, Henry Seagraves.

Valeda is survived by a brother, Glenford Marr; 4 children, Lynda Kay (Don Beatty) of Victorville, CA., Cloyce (Karen) Williams of Shallowater, TX, Rachel (Gene) Ford of Round Rock, TX, and Rebecca Seagraves of Lubbock; 7 grandchildren, Andrew (Jaime) Ford, Ben Williams, Isaiah (Joy) Williams, Sarah (Allan) Van Liew, Brandi (Brad) Vaughn, Alex Seagraves and Emily Seagraves; 5 great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Katelynn Van Liew, Anna, Grace and Nicholas Ford.

She was a dedicated pastor’s wife who spent many years teaching youth classes in Sunday School. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She loved working in her garden, activities such as bowling, volleyball and many other church activities.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parkway Drive Baptist Church with Bro. Sidney Fallin officiating. Burial will follow in the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-7:30 p.m.
