On May 2, 1953, Vera Mae Butler was born to Shedrick Shelby and Ida Mae Richards-Shelby in Austin, Texas. She was the 10th born from 12 children. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. John College Heights, under the leadership of Pastor A. C. Clark. She attended the Austin Public Schools. On March 17, 1983, Vera married Harvey Ray Butler. Vera was employed with A.I.S.D. for 28 years. Vera was preceded in death by her father, Shedrick Shelby, mother Ida Mae Richards-Shelby, along with three other siblings. Vera leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Harvey Ray Butler; three sons, Donald Mitchell (Angeleke), Rahn Randle (Tiffany), Harvey Randle (Lisa); one daughter Qurina Butler (Chris), Amber Mitchell, Desirae Mitchell, Terika Satterwhite; seventeen grandchildren; one great grandson, Tylin Washington; mother-in-law Darlene Butler; four sisters and five brothers, Cella Brown, Lois S. Manor, Mary Ward, Betty Ward, W. C. Clark, Joseph Shelby, Daniel Shelby, Willie Shelby, and Charles Shelby. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
