Vernell smith, the daughter of the late Rosa McCellan and James Williams, born on January 14, 1943 in Summerville, South Carolina. She departed this life on april 13, 2011 at York Hospital from a lengthy illness. Vernell Smith was born in Givhan, South Carolina. She was one of eight children. Vernell attended Alston High School in Summerville, South Carolina where her family moved to when she was a child. She attended Catonsville Community College and Univesity of Baltimore. She also attended Colunade Beauty Academy. Vernell worked as a cosmetologist for years until she had to quit because of health reasons. She then went to work for the Baltimore County Department of Social Services. She worked there for nineteen years before she came out on early retirement in 1996. Since retirement she volunteered at the Liberty Senior center and her church, rising Sun First Baptist Church Saturday School. Vernell leaves to cherish her memory; three children, Cudretta Smith, Michael Smith and John Henry Smith; (her husband James Smith, two brothers, Willie Felder and Edward Felder and three sisters, Leola Chapman, Annabel Pinacle and Belah Mae Grant all preceded her in death). She also leaves to cherish her memory; one brother James Felder of New York and one sister, Rosa Felder of Baltimore, Maryland; five grandchildren, Sharon, Charlene, Elizbeth, Christopher and Kelonah; six great-grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family who will miss her dearly.
