MR. VERNON SAWYER, SR BASTROP, LOUISIANA Cox Funeral Home Bastrop, Louisiana BASTROP, LA - Funeral services for Mr. Vernon Sawyer, Sr. will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday August 11, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Bastrop with the Reverend Jim Ingram officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. till time of services at the church. Vernon Sawyer was born January 14, 1921 near the Gaddie Community of Morehouse Parish to the late Henry Bussie Sawyer and Edith Brown Sawyer. He passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop. Mr. Sawyer was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Geneva Sawyer DeFrancisco and Aline Sawyer Robertson; and three brothers, Reuben Sawyer, Newton Sawyer, and Mack Sawyer. Vernon was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bastrop and retired from International Paper Company after 45 years of service. He also served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Sawyer is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Frances Wheat Sawyer; his children, Vernon G. Sawyer and his wife, Nancy and Gay Brown and her husband, Mike; one brother, Harold Sawyer and his wife, Betty; six grandchildren, Lisa Haley and her husband, Kevin, John David Sawyer and Shannon Navarro, Michelle Brown, Chris Brown, Courtney Brown, and Ashley Brown; several great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Serving as pallbearers will be John David Sawyer, Michael Wooley, Chris Brown, Courtney Brown, Clay Costello, and Michael Costello. Honorary pallbearers will be David Ginn, Harold Chappell, Theron Scott, and Dr. Robert Lyon. www.coxfuneral.com
