Mrs. Vicey Alta Scott Obituary


SCOTT Vicey Alta Gray Scott, born May 7, 1918, in Whistler, AL, died on Monday, January 2, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carrie Lavinia Vaughn Gray and Robert Marion Gray; her husband of 68 years, Bryant Wilson Scott; son-in-law, Monte Newman; and brothers, Eugene Gray, Fritz Gray, Curtis Gray, Robert Gray, and Willie Gray. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1936 and lived most of her life as a homemaker in Mobile. She lived in Foley, AL for 13 years while her husband served as pastor of the First Baptist Church. She worked as the Women's Editor of THE ONLOOKER, the local newspaper. She is survived by three daughters, Judith Scott Maddox (Donald), Kathy Newman and Patty Manning (Philip); two grandchildren, Donald Paul Maddox, Jr. (Stephanie) and Scott Maddox Weekley (Jason); three great-grandchildren, Donald Paul Maddox III, Mary Scott Weekley and Anne Hatter Weekley; her identical twin sister, Mary Avis Gray Parker; special nieces, Joann Parker Magnoli (Mike) and Nancy Parker Spence (Dan) and special nephew, Dr. Byron C. Scott (Suzanne) as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins; also her beloved cats, George and Oliver. Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at Pine Crest Cemetery with visitation from 11:00 AM until service time in the parlor of Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile. The Rev. Robin Wilson of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church will officiate at the service. Pallbearers will be Donald Paul Maddox, Sr., Donald Paul Maddox, Jr., Donald Paul Maddox, III, Dr. Byron C. Scott, Dr. Michael A. Magnoli, Daniel A. Spence, and honorary pallbearer, Philip Scott Manning. The family requests memorials be made to McGill- Toolen Catholic High School, Trinity Episcopal Church, or Dauphin Way United Methodist Church. Condolences may be offered at pinecrestfuneral home.com.
