Vicki Ann Bourg, 40, of Malcolm, NE, died on January 24, 2011, after a long battle with cancer. She approached cancer with the same determination that she approached every challenge in her life, continuing to love, work, and play. She was born October 10, 1970; and died in the same home where, as a newborn, she was brought home from the hospital. Vicki married her long-time love, Jesse Roberts, on November 27, 2010, in the Garden Room at BryanLGH West Medical Center.
Vicki was an LPD Resource Officer with North Star High School. She was a graduate of Malcolm High School and Central Missouri State University. Vicki received numerous commendations in her career with Lincoln Police Department, including Field Training Officer of the Year Award (2001), the Life Saving Award (1999), as well as the Exceptional Duty Award (2009), where she was commended for her “proactive approach by building relationships of trust and open communication with the North Star students and their friends.”
Vicki was not only a talented and courageous law enforcement officer, but also a gifted pastry chef, a licensed glider pilot, co-owner of the Bar Star Ranch (which she meticulously landscaped), and horse and dog lover. Vicki was a tireless advocate for other cancer victims, and championed compassionate treatment and care for cancer survivors.
Vicki was consistently the instigator of fun, and loved entertaining and gathering people together for celebrations of every kind, including an annual ranch hayrack ride on her birthday, as well as annual Halloween costume parties. She had boundless creativity, and delighted in decorating for all holidays, making her own Christmas cards, and enjoying leatherwork.
Vicki is survived by husband, Jesse J. Roberts, of Malcolm; her parents, Dale and Linda Bourg, of Springfield, Missouri; and brother and sister-in-law, Brendon and Liz Bourg, nephew, Cole, and niece, Brooke; Jesse’s parents, Floyd “Buster” and Judy Roberts, Jesse’s brother, Will and sister-in-law, Ashley Roberts, nephews, Braden and Grayson Roberts, all of Ashland; as well as countless extended family, friends, coworkers, and North Star Students whom she loved and who loved her.
As a final illustration of her compassion for others, Vicki’s final words were: “Will you be all right?”
Memorial service to be held at Lincoln North Star High School, 5801 N. 33rd St. on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: Vicki Bourg Scholarship Fund for Lincoln North Star Students, c/o People’s Choice Federal Credit Union, 2500 “N” Street, Lincoln, NE 68510.
