HYDE PARK - Violet M. Rogers Buckner, 88, died Friday, June 4, 2004 at Ferncliff Nursing Home, Rhinebeck. She lived in Hyde Park and Poughkeepsie, then retired to Flordia with her second husband and returned to Hyde Park in 1999. Mrs. Buckner was a waitress at the former Hyde Park Diner before becoming a machine operator at Kem Cards in Poughkeepsie. After retiring from Kem Cards, she worked as a clerk at Molloy Pharmacy in Hyde Park. She was a member of the Hyde Park Baptist Church, a former member of the the Rebekah Lodge, Hyde Park Chapter, and a former member of the XYZ (Extra Years of Zest) Club in Cary, N.C. Mrs. Buckner was adopted and raised by her grandparents, John and Mary Jane Nott. Born in Setauket, N.Y., on Jan. 6, 1916, she was the daughter of Walter and Maude Nicholas Nelson. She attended Drew Seminary School for Young Ladies in Carmel, N.Y., and then Staatsburg High School. She married her first husband, Milton Clay Rogers on June 23, 1935 at the Hyde Park United Methodist Church. Mr. Rogers died Feb. 24, 1966. She married her second husband, Herbert Buckner on Jan. 19, 1968 at the Hyde Park United Methodist Church. Mr. Buckner died Sept. 10, 1982. Survivors include three sons, Thomas Rogers of Staatsburg, Richard Rogers and his wife, Gail of Hyde Park, and Kenny Rogers and his wife, Ann of Kansas; nine grandchildren 11 great grandchildren; stepdaughter, Sandra Buckner of Poughkeepsie; two stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat grandson. In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by a brother, Walter E. Nott; uncles, George and William Nichols; a cousin, Mae Fallon; and a daughter-in-law, Allyne Rogers. Calling hours are Sunday, June 6, 46 p.m., at Sweet's Funeral Home Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, June 7, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the family plot at Union Cemetery, Hyde Park.
