Mr. Virgil "Pete" White, 89, formerly of the La Porte area moved to Punta Gorda, FL. in 1991. He died Friday September 24, 2010 at La Porte Hospital. He was born June 20, 1921 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Ernest White and Cora (Petersen) White. Virgil was retired from Al's Supermarket. He was Veteran of the US Marine Corp. during W.W. II and he was a life member of the V.F.W. Post # 1130 of La Porte. He was married in La Porte, IN. to Lois Smith White for 61 years. She preceded him in death in Nov. of 2007. He is survived by his 2 daughters - Cynthia Spriggs of New Buffalo, MI, Suzanne (Brett) Locke of La Porte, IN; 4 Grandchildren - Michelle Loeffler, Nicole Loeffler, Eric Spriggs, Janell Spriggs; six great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and a sister - Phyllis Pontius of Ft. Meyers, FL. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Rene Henoch, 1 sister and 2 brothers. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Ind. Private graveside services will be held at Pine Lake Cemetery, in October. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
