Virginia R. "Ginny" Thorp (nee Sutton), 89, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Arden Courts Assisted Living Facility in Westlake where she resided the past two years. She was born February 15, 1923 in Cleveland and graduated from Lakewood High School. She then graduated during World War II from Fenn College's (Cleveland State University) war training course as an expert in engineering drawing, shop practice, and practical mathematics and was employed at General Motors Bomber Plant as a Draftsman. She was also employed as a draftsman for Designers for Industry, Inc.; as a secretary for the Cleveland Board of Insurance; and as a bookkeeper and mimeograph for Thor-Press Printing.

She resided in Avon Lake for many years and when her children were younger she was active with the P.T.A., was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader and Room Mother. She was also past president of the Avon Lake Garden Club and involved with community garden projects. Mrs. Thorp was a member of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ where she served on the long range planning committee and was a greeter.

Mrs. Thorp enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, gardening, golfing, playing tennis (where she won several trophies, some while in her 70's and 80's), bike riding, bridge, and pinochle. She also enjoyed traveling to Jekyll Island, GA with her husband and family for 34 years where she was a member of the Jekyll Island Pottery Guild.

She is the beloved wife of the late Earl David Jr. (married 53 years); loving mother of Clifford (Jean) of Fairview Park, Lynn (Joseph) Cheslock of Cuyahoga Falls, and Scott of Lagrange; devoted grandmother of Khristopher, Michael, Shawn, Jennifer, Erica, and Jonathon; great grandmother of Nadia, Sidney, Auna and another great grandbaby on the way; dear sister of Janet Doerr of Avon Lake.

Memorial contributions may be forwarded to Arden Courts of Westlake, 28400 Center Ridge Road, 44145 or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, 44110-2602. Memorial service at Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd., on Sunday, May 27 at 1:00 pm. Rev. Dr. Kelly Brill will officiate. Cremation by Busch Crematory.
