Virginia Quigley Foley, of Rocky River, Ohio. Born in 1917, the daughter of Eugene and Beatrice Quigley, graduated from St. Mary of the Woods College in 1938 and then attended Western Reserve University School of Social Services, Cleveland College and Cleveland Institute of Art. Mrs. Foley worked under Earnest J. Bohn during the founding and building of the CMHA in the 1930's. Virginia was a committed Clevelander, involved in numerous Boards of Trustees in the Cleveland area, and did many years of fundraising for the following groups: Child Guidance Center – VP & Secretary (was honored with a special award for fundraising in the early 1990's); Cleveland International Program; Lakewood Hospital – Junior Board President; Cleveland Museum of Art – Women's Council & Director's Circle; Cleveland Print Club – VP(Operations); Beck Center for the Cultural Arts (a gallery for art was dedicated to her in 1997); Catholic Counseling Center; Catholic Charities Corporation; Children's Aid Society, Rocky River Board; Eliza Jennings Home – Junior Board and Lakewood Hospital Foundation. She was a member of Westwood Country Club, The Intown Club, Clifton Club (served on the Board of Directors), Contemporary Art Society as well as two study clubs, a book club and numerous Bridge groups.
Mrs. Foley was the widow of George M. Foley who passed away in 1972; mother of Eugene (Inga Duktig), Marilyn Stephen (Scott), Laura Foley (Dan Collins), Virginia K. Findlay (Gregg) and G. Michael Foley (Dianna); grandmother of Christopher Foley (deceased), Megan Stephen, Allison Stephen, Sara Stephen, Kristina Goel, Lara Rawe, Liam Collins, Misha Foley and Alex Foley. Virginia passed away December 23, 2011. Memorial contributions may be forwarded to Catholic Charities, 1404 E. 9th St., 8th Floor, Cleveland, OH 44114, or Beck Center for the Cultural Arts, 17801 Detroit Ave., Lakewood, OH 44107, or Applewood Centers, 2525 E. 22nd St., Cleveland, OH 44115. Prayer Service will be held at 9:00am on Thursday, December 29, at the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Christopher's Church, 20141 Detroit Rd., in Rocky River at 9:30am.
