Vivian Elaine Stettler, 93, went peacefully in her sleep to join her Lord on Tuesday 19 July 2011 at the Eagleton Assisted Living under St Josephs Hospice care and surrounded by family and friends.
Vivian was born 30 Dec 1917 on the home farm in Simpson, MN to Guy & Hazel [Stuckman] Pattridge. She grew up in the Simpson and Pleasant Grove communities and graduated from Chatfield high school in 1934.
In 1946 she met and married John Stettler, the love of her life. They lived on a small farm east of Rochester and raised their family of four children. They moved to Chippewa Falls, WI after she broke her hip in a fall. Before moving she was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester and after moving, enjoyed the ministry of Pastor Robert Hoekstra at Chippewa Manor apartments.
She spent much of her life in service to others. She had a keen sense of humor and a diverse group of friends. She was nonjudgmental and accepted people as they were, both sophisticated and her “more earthy” friends. She went out of her way to ensure that her actions didn’t “bother people”. In her later years she enjoyed crocheting, crosswords, watching game shows and gardening.
Survivors include her sons; Herb of Kenai, AK, Glenn (Judy) of Chippewa Falls, WI and daughters Shirley (Wayne) Walters of Williamsburg, IA, Carol Remerowski of Oklahoma City and sister-in-law Helen Pattridge of Stewartville. She also has 11 grandchildren; Sonya (Richard) Uhlmann, Brenda (Paul) Grucza, Jeff (Kelly), Andy (Kelly) & Tim (Lori) Walters, Steve (Shannon) & Brent (Jennifer) Remerowski, Corissa (Quinn) Wolniak, Tanya (Craig) Anderson, & Dan (Kari) Stettler and Diane (Jay) Flaherty.15 great grandchildren; Brandt & Even Uhlmann, Shane & Jackie Walters, Kiaya & Aubray Walters, Breanna Remerowski, Kensie & Lily Stettler, Eli & Simon Anderson, Aidan & Owen Wolniak, and Erin & Ryan Flaherty and 2 great great grandchildren; Graceyn & Jacob Uhlmann with another on the way. She is also survived by special friends Agnes Kaasa, Nizar and Nosiba Ottoman.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings; Marion (Al) Paulson, Ken, Raymond (Dorothy) and son-in-law Ron Remerowski.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to the Eagleton Assisted Living staff and the St Josephs Hospice team for their extraordinary support during this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, 25 July, 2011, at Griffin Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, with Pastor Robert Hoekstra officiating and Horan Funeral Home assisting the family. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Interment is at Union Cemetery in Pleasant Grove, MN.
