Wade H. Garton, 90, of Little Rock died October 11, 2011. Born November 3, 1920 in Gregory, Arkansas, he was the son of Wade H. and Mary Cranford Garton. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II where he flew 35 missions over Japan. Later he joined the Air National Guard where he served until 1969 and was active during the Little Rock Central High School incident and the Pueblo Crisis. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was a charter member of Gaines Street Baptist Church (later Olivet and LifeWay), where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher until his health prevented him from attending. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service after 30 years of service and then entered the private sector as a certified public accountant.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Garton; sister, Betty Tyler and son-in-law, Buddy Bowman, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Maurine Lee Garton, of Little Rock; daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Bowman of Little Rock; sister, Donna Christine Jelen of Plano, Texas; two granddaughters, LaneScott and her husband, Keith, and Sarah Deahl, all of Little Rock; grandchildren, Kaitlyn "Kaitie" and Wade Scott and Hayleigh and Ethan Deahl, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, 5800 W. 12th Little Rock (501) 661-9111 with Rev. Johnny Jackson, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home.
