Walter Adams, the third son of Elenore and Charles Adams Sr. was born July 4th, 1939 and grew into manhood in the Washington Heights, New York area. It was there his formation into a Christian caring gentleman began. He was baptized at the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Catherine of Genoa, attended their grammar school, spent a year at Bishop Dubois High School and completed his formal education at George Washington High School in New York City. Walter later attended Pace University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree.
Walter developed three important characteristics as he matured into manhood, a love of God, a strong loyalty to his friends and country and an unwavering love for family. He was truly a phenomenal individual with a vivacious personality, ambitious outlook, a no-nonsense individual who would literally do whatever he could to help others. He was a wealth of knowledge and enjoyed giving advice, particularly to his wife and nieces whom he loved dearly.
He served in the United States Army Engineering Corp, during the Berlin crisis in the late 1950's and received an honorable discharge after two years of service in Berlin Germany.
Walter began his work career in the private sector, working for companies such as Amman & Whitney and the FMC Corporation, and became a distinguished employee who was held in high esteem by all who knew him. Walter, however, had a higher calling to public service, and took assignments within the New York City Parks Department as a Manager of Park Rangers, Community Affairs Manager in the Bronx, and Community Affairs Manager for the twelve districts in Manhattan and Central Park. He retired as Director of Health and Safety with the Department of Parks.
Walter married the love of his life, Jacqueline Reape, on October 31st, 1971 and together they raised two beautiful children, Walter Adams Jr. and Tiffany Adams. Walter Sr. understood quite well the importance of education and encouraged his children to be the best they could be. Walter Jr. graduated from Oswego State University and obtained his law degree from Fordham School of Law. Tiffany graduated from Mount Saint Mary's College and obtained a Master of Science in Elementary and Special Education from Touro College. Walter was extremely proud of both children.
Walter demonstrated his faithful service as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Board of Trustees and Head of Ushers at his church, Epiphany Roman Catholic Church, where he attended and celebrated mass every Sunday.
Walter's legacy will live on through his pride and joy, Aidan Adams, his grandson. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Adams, son, Walter J. Adams Jr., daughter, Tiffany Adams, brothers Charles Adams Jr. and Cornell Adams, sister, Linda Girard as well as a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on
