SNYDER Walter L. 96 formerly of Clifton died Friday, August 23, 2013. Born in Passaic, he resided in Clifton most of his life before moving to Fairfield 4 years ago. Walt is a US Army Veteran of WW II who served with the 82nd Airborne Div. in Europe. He retired in 1980 as the Superintendent of Maintenance for the Clifton Board of Education after 44 years of service. Walt is a 58 year member of Clifton Masonic Lodge and a former member of the Athenia Reformed Church in Clifton. He is also a member of the Salaam Shrine Center in Livingston where he served as Director and Master of Ceremonies of their String Band Unit for many years and as a member of their Legion of Honor. Walt was also a member of the Lakeland Shrine Club and Newark Court #37 ROJ. He is predeceased by his wife of 73 years, Betty, who died in March, by a son, Jon Snyder and by a sister, Audrey Verhagen. Walt is survived by a daughter, Jan Price and husband, Robert of Little Falls, by a daughter in law, Pappy Snyder of CA, by two grand-daughthers, Mandy Soares and Gina Castellar and by a brother, Henry "Bud" Snyder of Clifton. Masonic funeral services will be held 8PM Tuesday at Allwood Funeral Home, 660 Allwood Road, Clifton. Visiting hours are Tuesday evening 6-9PM. Memorial donations to the Shriner's Chirldrens Hospitals, c/o Salaam Shrine Center, 369 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston, NJ 07039 are preferred to flowers.
