Walter Mugavin 1947-2012 Walter Michael Mugavin was born on May 17, 1947. Walter died peacefully on March 10, 2012 after a short battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Linda; daughter Tara Artibani and her husband Frank; Sisters Eleanor Mugavin, Eileen Gould and Theresa Curtis and brother Thomas Mugavin. His family is comforted by the knowledge that he will be joining his parents, Joseph and Eleanor Mugavin, and his brothers, Francis and James in heaven. Walter grew up in Hell's Kitchen, NY and was a proud graduate, advocate and supporter of Power Memorial Academy High School (class of 1965). Following high school, he began working at United Parcel Service. In 1966, he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1968. He returned to continue his career with United Parcel Service until he retired in 2002. He and his wife Linda moved to Hilton Head Island, SC (from Brewster, NY) following their retirement. He enjoyed the life of leisure and worked continuously to improve his golf game. He will also be greatly missed by the new friends and colleagues he made in Hilton Head; including those from the Club at Indigo Run, the Knights of Columbus, the Indigo Run Men's Club and Alligator Assets Investment Club. Walter was a husband, father, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend, but most importantly was an all around good guy that was loved, admired and respected by all who met him. Services are being held in Hilton Head, SC and New York, NY. On Tuesday, March 13 there will be a viewing at The Island Funeral Home, Hilton Head Island, SC from 2-4PM and 6-8PM. Services will continue at Barrett Funeral Home, New York, NY. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, New York, NY followed by a Christian burial.
