Mr. Walter L. Simpson peacefully joined the Lord on November 2, 2009. Born July 18, 1918 in Little Rock, Arkansas he was preceded in death by his parents, Booth and Sally Simpson and his wife of 60 years Katherine Simpson.
He is survived by son Bob Simpson, son Mike Simpson and wife Kathy, brother Henry Simpson and wife Freeda, brother Charles Simpson, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was a member and deacon of Park Hill Baptist Church.
Walter grew up in Gravel Ridge and was a graduate of North Little Rock High School. He married Katherine Oakley April 3, 1942 in Yuma, Arizona. Walter was a proud veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
In 1945 Walter founded Twin City Printing and became involved in the Greater Little Rock community. Walter pioneered the first web newsprint offset press in the state and for 64 years his company has evolved into a third generation business with a nonstop attitude for service and philanthropy. The roster of organizations that Walter Simpson has helped is extensive. Walter was a life-time board member and past president of the North Little Rock Boys and Girls Club. He received the S.W. “Bud” Bowker Award for outstanding service to the Boys and Girls Club and was inducted into its Hall of Fame. Walter also served as president of the Park Hill Lion’s Club and President of the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce.
Most of all Walter Simpson excelled in loving his family as a brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather and as a trusted friend to many. He will be missed.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 4th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main Street in North Little Rock. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Park Hill Baptist Church, 201 East “C” Avenue, North Little Rock. Burial will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock.
