Wayne Edward Coin
Wayne Edward Coin, 69, of Milan, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013 at his home.
Wayne was born September 7, 1944, in Milan, to Joseph Monroe and Vera Maude (Tipton) Coin. On December 31, 1961, he married Joyce Pierson, in Pollock, Missouri, and she survives him. Also surviving are;: two sons, Brad Coin of Maqouketa, Iowa, and John (Jen Bono) Coin of Troy, Missouri; two daughters, Robin and husband Kenny Keller of Canton, Missouri, and Amy Makus of Ankeny, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Sharon Cale-Miller, Todd Cale, Gabriel Coin, Lacey Welsh, Brandon Coin, Derek Coin, Courtney Makus, Justin Makus, Christopher Coin, Benjamin Coin, Leslie (Kevin) Downs, and Tyler Coin; 11 great grandchildren, Kanna Miller, Kyleigh Coin, Xander Miller, Kayson Miller, Brecken Welsh, Brycen Welsh, Rocky Coin, Sophia Coin, Taylor Coin, Carter Cale, and Gage Cale. He was preceded by his parents, two grandsons, Darrin Edward Cale and Joshua Ryan Coin; a son-in-law, Kevin Makus; and one sister, Sharon Jo Scott.
In 1961 Wayne moved to Trenton where he worked for Trenton Foods. He and Joyce then returned to Milan where he worked for the State Highway Department for several years. Following that they moved to the Quad City area where he worked for Ametek. It was there he became a Union Steward in the International Machinist's Union. A year later he became a business representative and later was promoted to Grand Lodge Representative. They then moved from Burlington, Iowa to St. Louis, Missouri where he did Labor Board work for five years. From St. Louis they moved to Chicago where he became Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of the union and continued in that position when they moved to Ankeny, Iowa for six years. In 1999 Wayne retired and he and Joyce returned to Milan. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. He was past member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Milan Elks Lodge. Wayne was a very active member of the Democrat Party and had attended the Democrat Convention and served as a delegate during the Clinton era. He also was past Chairman of the Democrat Central Committee. Wayne enjoyed woodworking and mowing his yard. Most of all he loved his wife Joyce and his children especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 11:00 AM, Monday, November 4. 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Milan. Rev. Creighton Cox, Rev. Michael Davis, and Rev. Andrew Coon officiated. Music was provided by Jan Scobee, and tapes selections were played. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. .
