COLUMBIA A funeral service for Wayne Jerome Osmundson, Sr., 90, will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at 11:00 am at Ebenezer Lutheran Church with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Monday January 9, 2012, from 6-8 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mr. Osmundson died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 in Columbia. Born in Blue Earth, Minn., he was son of the late Amelia Gordy and the late Oscar Osmundson. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army infantry in Europe. He moved to Columbia in 1954 and worked for more than 35 years at Crowson-Stone Printing Co.
He was a student at the University of Minnesota when the United States entered World War II in December 1941. A sergeant, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was stationed in Berlin after Germany surrendered. He was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, he attended the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. He met the love of his life in Rochester, Jacqueline Chickering.
He is survived by three sons, Jerry Osmundson and his wife, Judy, Michael Osmundson and his wife, Susan, and Paul Osmundson; three grandchildren, Jimmy Osmundson, Chrissy Osmundson and Christopher Agle; and three great-grandchildren, Davis Agle, Patrick Agle, and Samantha Agle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie, and a son, James Palmer Osmundson.
The family thanks the staff of the Rice Estate in Columbia for its extraordinary care of Mr. Osmundson for the past several years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
