Wayne "Buddy" Rhodes, entered into eternal peace Feb. 4, 2012, at the age of 69. Wayne served four years in the Army and fifty years as an ironworker. His love for baseball reared him twenty-one years as a coach for the South Norfolk and Greenbrier Association. He is survived by his wife of 21 ½ years, Anita Lynn Rhodes; one daughter, Sherrie Wilson and husband Donovan of Chesapeake, VA; five sons, Michael and wife Mandy of North Carolina, William "Pete" Rhodes of Suffolk, VA, Steven Rhodes of Norfolk, VA, Joe Walker of Rocky Mount, NC, and Scott and wife Blythe Walker of Texas. He also leaves behind a brother, Mike and wife Donna of Chesapeake, VA; four sisters, Barbra Cope and husband James of Chesapeake, VA, Ruby White of Texas, June Stublen and husband JC of Suffolk, VA, Linda Sherman and husband Frank of Roanoke, VA; nine grandchildren, Meghan, DJ, Taylor, Mackenzie, Mason, Brooklin, Brandon, Raydon and Maverick. He was predeceased by his father, Jasper Rhodes; mother, Josephine Altman; sister, JoAnn Harlow; and grandson, Cameron Walker. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel by Pastor Tommy Smith. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
