Harold Wayne Walters, 71, retired teacher and basketball coach at Santa Fe High School, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday at the Wayne Walters Gymnasium at Santa Fe School with Kirk Brothers and Kenneth Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Friday after 1:00 P.M. at the school.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Roy Allen Walters and Ruth Cecile Chaney Walters. He was a graduate of Santa Fe High School and attended Bethel College, Martin Methodist College, and Middle Tennessee State University. He served in the U. S. Army. Mr. Walters was a member of Graymere Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Geneva Godwin Walters of Columbia; two daughters, Julie Witherow and Jill (Tad) Cummins, both of Columbia; one sister, Barbara (George) Woody of Columbia; two brothers, Ray (Donna) Walters of Columbia; Kenneth (Elaine) Walters of Santa Fe; and six grandchildren, Laura Witherow, Kayla Witherow, Trenton Witherow, Trevor Witherow, Erica Cummins, and Ashlee Cummins.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Jackson, W. C. Johnson, Harry Underwood, Wilburn Kelley, Larry Brown, Mike Stroud, Jerry Sands, and Marion Wilhoite. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present faculty and staff and former basketball players of Santa Fe School.
