WENDELL CHIPMAN
1921 – 2010

After an extended battle with Alzheimer’s and other health issues, Wendell Chipman, age 89, was honorably released from his earthly mission on September 23, 2010, to return to his Heavenly Father.

Wendell was born on February 4, 1921 to Myron H. Chipman and Vida Lynch Chipman, in Salt Lake City, Utah. His childhood was spent in Salt Lake City, Thistle, Helper, and American Fork.
He attended South High, where he met his future bride, Naomi Lester Carlston. He served a mission for the LDS church to the Spanish American Mission, where he served in Texas, New Mexico, and California. After being released from his mission, he enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served his country courageously during World War II, where he saw action mostly in the Pacific. While on leave he returned home to Salt Lake City and was sealed to his sweetheart Naomi in the Salt Lake Temple on September 16, 1944.
Dad loved our Savior, his family, and fellow man, and was always finding ways to serve them. He accepted many callings in the LDS church. He was an example of strength, patience, and service to the end. He always did his best and had love and a smile to share with those around him.
He spent the majority of his career working for the City of Salt Lake. He retired as a Supervisor of Heavy Equipment Work for the street department. He earned the SLC “Outstanding Employee of the Year” award in 1977.
After the passing of his wife Naomi in 1984, he later married Glenna Kofford; she passed away a few years later.
He is adored and will be missed by those all those left behind, including: son and daughter-in-law, Dee and Dorthy Chipman; 5 granddaughters - Rebecca Johnson (Chris), Charlene Pew (Kyle), Valerie McBride (Corey), Karen Tidwell (Travis) and Wendy Law (Seth); 20 great-grandchildren; brother - Carl Chipman (Beth); sister - Alice Gillespie (Dave); sister & brother-in-law Joyce and Lyn Kimball; bother-in- law - Cliff Cowan; nieces and nephews; ward members; and friends.
There will be a viewing held Thursday evening, SEPT 30th, at the Highland 6th ward chapel, located at 6050 West Chapel St. (10650 North), Highland, Utah.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Little Cottonwood 14th ward chapel, 1160 East Vine Street, Murray Utah, on Friday OCT 1st, with a viewing before the services from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Elysian Gardens located at 1075 East 4580 South, Salt Lake City.
