COLUMBIA Funeral service for Wilene Grubbs Palmer Mincey, 90, will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Greenlawn Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mrs. Mincey died Saturday, December 31, 2011. Born in Sumner County, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Charlie A and Viva Wilkinson Grubbs. She was married in 1945 to Gerald L. Palmer. They were happily married for 35 years. After Gerald died in 1981, she later reconnected with her friend Homer D. Mincey, and they married in 1987. They were happily married for 6 years before his death in 1993.
Mrs. Mincey was a Dental Assistant at Dorn VA Hospital for 25 years and volunteered at Palmetto Health Baptist following her retirement. Wilene was a longtime member of the church choir at Greenlawn Baptist Church. She was a 60+ years member of her church where she served on many committees and held several leadership roles. Wilene enjoyed helping others and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her son, Gerald Alan Palmer (Jean) of Spartanburg; daughter, Melanie Hatcher (Monnie) of Hopkins; brother, Dorman Grubbs of Cottontown, Tenn.; sister, Laura Mizell Broadrick of Gallatin, Tenn.; grandchildren, Heather Palmer Foster, Scott Hatcher, Jonathan Palmer, Charles Hatcher; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Jean Foster, and Palmer Foster; step-daughter, Sandee Baughman of Michigan. In addition to her parents and spouses, she was predeceased by a brother, Ellis Doyle Grubbs, a great-granddaughter, Julia Hatcher, great-grandson, Cole Hatcher, and a step-son, Dennis Mincey.
The family wishes to thank the staff at National Health Care Parklane and South Carolina Oncology Associates for their loving care.
